About Jason Catron
"The journey may have seemed long, but I know
it's just a new beginning," states Jason Catron
of his debut, self-titled release. "I grew up
singing.
It's all I have ever known, and for years it
defined who I was. But God took my life down a
different path - a path that has prepared me for
my ministry today." Jason's ministry has now
brought him full circle - back to the musical
talent he developed as a child.
"He has uniquely gifted me and provided me so
many opportunities. The question I continually
ask myself is 'What will I do with these
gifts?'"
The answer to that question can be found within
Jason's new CD. The project is filled with
beautiful, classical style delivered with a new,
refreshing air. Catron's rich and smooth vocals
are effortlessly wrapped around each song and
leave the listener sitting in awe of the talent,
but more importantly of the Creator to which
they are directed.
Jason
grew up in Kentucky and from an early age
pursued classical vocal training. "I was never
the odd man out among friends at school, but it
was hard at times to connect with my peers
musically. My voice has always been mature - it
was comical at times, perhaps, to see this small
kid with such a big voice. I still get comments
today about how such a big sound can come out of
such a small body."
There is no Kentucky twang in this seasoned and
matured voice. Jason grew up listening to such
power vocalists as Michael Crawford, Andrea
Bocelli, Steve Green, and Sandi Patti. Although
musical theater may have seemed a natural fit,
Catron always felt his heart being pulled to the
church. "I have always had a love for the
church. God demands that we love each other and
that we love the church. Of course, many people
have been hurt by 'churched' people, but I
choose to see the good in the body and share it.
My passion is to encourage and uplift the body
of Christ. If Jason Catron Ministries were to
cease to exist tomorrow, the world would go on,
but if the church were to disappear, we are all
in trouble."
With this vision and passion, Jason set out to
make a project that would speak directly to the
church. He succeeded. He enlisted the help of
veteran writer and producer Steve Siler to make
this dream a reality. "I searched for some time
for the right person to come along and help me
create this music. Steve played me a song over a
cup of coffee at a meeting for another artist I
work with, and the rest is history."
Jason teamed up with Steve and Philip Keveren
and came up with seven of the ten timeless
pieces on the album. "I basically gave Steve
and Philip the direction and themes of what I
wanted to say. It was amazing to see God work
out the details of each song." From the awe
inspiring opening, "In Pastures Green" to the
commanding "Psalm 103," the project is filled
with grand and majestic orchestration that pulls
the listener along on a journey of the grandeur
of our Creator. At other times your heart will
be torn out by a combination of smooth vocals,
rich strings, and inspiring lyrics from
selections like "Oh, I Want To Know You More"
and "Gift."
"I am most proud of the three songs on this
record that are straight from scripture. There
is no disputing the power and testimony of
singing scripture." "When I am Weak," "Psalm
103," and "Then I Will Hear" will take you into
a sincere time of worship as you listen to and
ponder the Word of God.
The highlight of the record comes from the
moving "Gift." It is a depiction of someone
looking at Christ during His last moments on the
cross and trying to understand why He would
suffer and die for the sins of humanity.
If this is only a beginning, we can only
anticipate what lies ahead from this incredible
talent. By creating a timeless, church focused
project, there are no limits or restraints on
the life of such an honest work. "I just want to
spend my days encouraging and challenging my
friends and fellow believers. That is what God
has called me to do. We each have our own unique
experiences and callings. Some may be to rock
and others to classical. Some may be to
medicine and others to politics. The bottom line
is we are all called. I want to motivate the
church to rise to the
challenge."
